Jubilation
Guido Brink (1913-2003)
1992
1/4" Aluminum
Brink was born in Dusseldorf, Germany where he studied art at the Dusseldorf Academy in the 1930s. Drafted into the German army during WWII he experienced the horrors of war first hand while serving on the Russian front. He came to the United States in 1954. Brink worked in a variety of mediums, including watercolors, oils, acrylics, and lithographs as well as a variety of metals and enamels. Dimensions are 8' x 8' x 8'. Jubilation’s anthropomorphic figures and circular arrangement are typical of Brink’s work. These iconographic elements have magical connotations referring to the search for spiritual identity. The artist felt that his work elicited complex emotional levels of feelings and responses. The piece is intended to provide a meaningful transition between the building’s architecture and the people it hosts. (Funded by the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Percent for Art program)
