Coelho (1927-2002) was an art education faculty member at UW-Whitewater when he sculpted this work in 1966. Coelho left Whitewater to head the art department at the University of South Dakota. He eventually moved on to San Francisco State University where he served as chairman of that university’s art department. Coelho worked in many mediums including prints, bronze sculpture, painting, video, and in the last few years, poetry and intricate drawings.
